Ant is a tiny insect that we rarely see alone. You see them busy interacting, and working together carrying food - be it a sugar crumb or a leaf piece.
In a work place- be it a fresher or seasoned employee - what you require is the quality of an ant.
1. Think on one's feet
A teacher nor a boss CAN'T teach you everything, but experience and mistake PERFECTLY does.
What makes you different in a work place is the attitude/ manner towards handling a problem. If you ponder too much, you may miss out on the activity or opportunity to make a difference. "Think on one's/your feet" means "react to events decisively, effectively, and without prior thought."
Well, many may say that acting on impulse is a bad choice ( Yep! slapping your boss is definitely one).
Look at this way, if you react to a situation/problem based on your wit and gut, there could be two outcomes:
make a gigantic mistake, and learn a valuable lesson that you end up teaching and imparting others.
make a monumental change, and teach the organization a valuable lesson that you end up becoming a case study for future leaders.
So either way is good, it's how you see it.
Be ready to face any problem, think and react based on your wit & gut (rarely heart) and be a team player than a solo player.
2. Think ahead
Planning never fails; whoever told you 'NOPE' was never in the plan.
The second quality that an employee requires to be an asset to the organization is his/her ability to plan ahead. When you act impulsively, there will be a need for either damage control or knowledge-building. One must be resourceful enough to connect and contact people who can help execute these activities.
A employee who could foresee such events and plan for the possible options are future leaders and path breakers. So be alert, do your research, and built your connects. That's going to help you a long way.
3. Think loud
Thinking loud gets the job done, not shouting loud
If you have an idea or doubt, speak up and share among peers and management to make holistic decisions that works best for any organization. Keeping thoughts to one may lead to assumptions and presumptions that is never good.
Discuss things out, hold a healthy debate, appreciate the opponent point, encourage the team decision are the way things should work.
